Fish ID Speciality Course
This course is designed to teach divers how to identify fish species that are found in temperate, subtemporal and tropical waters. Introducing divers to the most commonly found families and species of fish. Students will learn the basics of fish identification and basic scientific survey techniques as well as the joys of knowing what interesting species you are diving with. Learn about Project AWARE and other research efforts as well as the importance of having a positive impact on the underwater environment.
What do I need to start?
- Minimum age 10 years old
- PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver or higher
What will I do?
You will learn the basics of how to categorise fish species by placing them into appropriate family groups and identify specific species. During the dives, you will use an underwater slate to identify characteristics of local fish families and species, learn and conduct fish survey techniques and strategies. As well as learn and demonstrate appropriate and responsible diving practices and behaviours, so as to have a positive impact on the underwater environment.

Generally, the course can be completed over 1 day

- Towel, sunscreen and swimmers
- Underwater slate (provided by us)

Total price for the course is $255, this includes a double dive to Fish Rock, full gear hire, theory and practical assessment.
