Boat Dives
We usually run double dives out to our dive sites choosing the best locations depending on weather conditions, diver experience and of course, the diver's preferences! We understand that most divers are keen to dive Fish Rock Cave for at least one of the two dives and we plan accordingly.
Ocean Eye
At Fish Rock Dive Centre in South West Rocks, all of our adventures start with a boat ride designed for comfort, safety, and easy access to some of Australia’s most iconic dive sites.
Our 12-metre purpose-built dive vessel features a spacious deck, cabin toilet, warm shower. Whether you’re exploring Fish Rock Cave, diving with schooling grey nurse sharks, or seeking the thrill of hammerhead season, every trip is supported by expert crew, modern facilities, and eco-conscious practices.

Before we depart, our team provides all the essentials — tanks, weights, and Nitrox (for certified divers) — and fits you with any pre-arranged rental gear. You can select exactly what you need through our online booking system, ensuring a seamless start to your dive day. For those looking to build skills, you can even add a Nitrox course, completing the theory online before arrival and finishing with hands-on training on the boat.
From the moment you step aboard until your return to our private dock, every detail is taken care of — so you can focus on what matters most: diving into extraordinary encounters beneath the sea.
Dive Day
Meet at the Dock (7:30–8:00 a.m.)
We begin the day at our private dock in South West Rocks, usually between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. (timing may vary slightly depending on tides and weather). At this time, we’ll provide you with your included tanks and weights, and if you’re Nitrox certified, you can dive with Nitrox at no extra charge.
If you’ve requested rental gear, we’ll fit you out before departure. To make things smooth, we ask that rental needs are pre-arranged through our online booking system the day before. This allows us to prepare a range of gear sizes that will suit you on the day. You can select only the items you need — whether that’s a wetsuit, BCD, regulator, or computer.
For divers looking to expand their skills, you also have the option to add on a Nitrox course. Most of the course theory is completed online before your arrival, with hands-on demonstrations and instruction provided on the day.
Gear Up & Safety Briefing
Once on board our 12m purpose-built dive boat, you’ll set up your gear with guidance from our experienced crew. A thorough safety and dive site briefing ensures you’re fully prepared for the adventure ahead.
The Boat Trip
It's 35 to 40 minute trip out to Fish Rock Island, well season, it can be a little bit longer, because if the whales are there we will stop and see if we can play.
First Dive
We typically begin with a dive at Fish Rock or another South West Rocks site, chosen to suit the day’s conditions. This may include the iconic 120m Fish Rock Cave, if it is not your first time with us, drifting past schooling grey nurse sharks, or encountering tropical visitors and rays.
Surface Interval & Refreshments - 1 hour minimum
Back on deck, enjoy refreshments, warm showers, and plenty of time to relax. Our crew will share insights into the marine life you’ve just experienced and prepare you for the next dive.
Second Dive
Your second dive usually is the cave or can be a different part of Fish Rock Island or another local site — often featuring schooling hammerheads (Sept–Feb), tropical leopard sharks in autumn, or grey nurse sharks and whales in winter.
Return to the Dock - usually 1 to 2 pm
We generally return to the dock by early afternoon the breakdown and clean all the gear. Most of the time we can make it back for Divers to walk across the road to the Riverside Tavern for a pub lunch and refreshments.
