Blotched Big Eye

"FAMILY: PRIACANTHIDAE

COMMON NAME: BLOTCHED BIGEYE

SCIENTIFIC NAMES: Heteropriacanthus  cruentatus

FEATURES:  Once again the fact that this fish is wearing its night colours does not make it particularly easy to identify. However, the fact that other species of Bigeyes do not have so much spotting on their fins or blotches along the upper part of the back makes it possible to make an identification. This species grows to 30 cm and can be found throughout the Asia/Indo – Pacific area often inhabiting caves." - Neville Coleman

Special thanks to Neville Coleman for identifying this fish. Neville has spent much of his life photographing and documenting sea life and has authored over 50 books, mostly on underwater natural history.
